Dr. Jane Barton is a licensed
psychologist who has worked in the mental health field since the
early 1990s. Born and raised in Tulsa, she received her doctorate in
psychology from Oklahoma State University, but the beauty of the
Smoky Mountains and an internship at the University of Tennessee
drew her to Knoxville. Her compassionate approach with clients
emphasizes empowerment, emotional healing, cognitive/behavioral
change, and assisting others to reclaim meaning in their lives. She
has special training and experience in treating substance abuse
issues, eating disorders, adult survivors of sexual abuse and/or
sexual trauma, family and couples counseling and women's issues.
Another area of specialty is helping families cope with a loved one
who has an addiction but seems unwilling or unable to change. She
also works with people on issues of anxiety, depression, bipolar
disorder, and a variety of other concerns. Dr. Barton sees both
adults and adolescents.
Dr. Barton believes in the adage, "Change your mind and change your
life." She believes that changing how we think can be healing and
can eliminate the roadblocks to one's hopes and dreams. Dr. Barton
enjoys being a guide and a partner in the process of changing old,
negative thought patterns and helping clients find meaning and
purpose in their lives.
