Chris Barckhoff, LCSW, received her Master’s degree in social work from the University of Tennessee in 1993 and her license in social work in 1995. She had previously earned degrees in sociology and psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.
Chris's training and practice have focused on depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflicts, substance abuse and family relationships. She enjoys a diverse practice, working with children, adolescents and adults, in individual, couples or family counseling.
Chris’s treatment approach is based on developing trusting relationships through acceptance, support and humor. She enjoys helping others find balance and direction, particularly those dealing with life changes such as parenting, divorce, professional stress, recent moves, and empty nests.
Since becoming a parent, Chris has developed a strong interest in the role of individual temperament. She has applied her knowledge of temperament in developing ways to improve self-understanding, parenting, relationships, and work performance. Additionally, Chris often encourages the use of journaling to help others manage the challenges of life and reach their full potential.
She is a founding partner of Insight Consulting and Education and she teaches divorcing parenting classes. Chris has also presented workshops on ethics for mental health practitioners, the use of journaling for personal growth and development, temperament and emotional intelligence.
